Drink, eat and give back
In 2016, the Festival donated over $21,000 to local charities and organizations, thanks to help from Festival guests and sponsors. This year, the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival aims to donate even more to these fantastic organizations:
The Festival is proud to support The Leftovers Foundation for the first time this year! $1 from every Front of the Line ticket sold will be donated to this worthy organization that picks up leftover food from local restaurants and grocery stores and delivers them to places like the food bank, Inn from the Cold, Alpha House, and more to alleviate stress and fill those kitchens with fresh items.
Calgary Food Bank
The Festival team donated 24 hours of volunteer time at the Calgary Food Bank in 2016. In addition, attendees of the Calgary Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival helped us donate nearly $1,800 and 450 lbs of food. Help us raise even more this year– non-perishable food items and monetary donations can be made at the door. Let’s see if Calgary attendees can bring more in than their Edmonton counterparts – the challenge is on!
Edmonton Food Bank
In 2016, Festival guests were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support those in need – and boy, did they deliver! Last year, the Edmonton Festival raised $2,400 and 750 lbs of food for the Edmonton Food Bank. We can’t wait to see how much Edmonton attendees raise this year!
SAIT Culinary Campus
Funds totalling $5,000 were raised to provide important scholarships and opportunities for students enrolled at SAIT’s Culinary Campus. Congrats and best wishes to the recipients of the 2017 Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival scholarships. Way to go Soojin, David and Brittany!
NAIT Culinary Arts
Supporting the next generation of top chefs, $5,000 was raised for students enrolled in NAIT’s Culinary Arts program. Congratulations to Carley and Allen – recipients of the 2017 Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival scholarships!
Fort McMurray Support
Through Early Bird ticket purchases between May 25 – June 1, 2016, the Festival proudly donated a portion of sales, totaling $1,004 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of Fort McMurray. The Festival also donated $2 from every Front of the Line ticket sold to the Wood Buffalo Food Bank with the generous help of our sponsor Liquor Connect – totaling $6,201! Wood Buffalo continues to support the Fort McMurray area after the devastating wildfires.
