| The Vino Awards is an annual wine competition open to all participating wineries in the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival. Over two hundred entrants, from worldwide wineries, competed in the Vino Awards on April 23 & 24, 2007. All the medal winning wines will be available for sampling in the Grand Tasting Hall during the Calgary & Edmonton Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festivals.
The judging of the Vino Awards is completed by a panel of highly qualified judges from Western Canada. The wines are tasted blind, so the judges are not influenced by labels or prices. The judges assign scores determining which wines qualify for a gold, silver or bronze medal. The winning wines are then split into price categories, so you can find a bottle that suits your price range. There are three categories for both red and white wines: under $20, between $20 to $30, and over $30.

New this year, the Festival held a competition for two consumers to be wine judges at the 2007 Vino Awards! Two people were chosen to taste approximately 15 wines – either Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon – alongside the professional judges.
